This document describes the progress of the work on identification of key needs for improved fire protection in the context of implementation, harmonization and further development of the Eurocodes. The EU policy and the key actors in standardization relevant to the fire design of construction works and construction products are presented. Fire design procedures and methods in the Eurocodes are overviewed. The Nationally Determined Parameters (NDPs) in the Eurocodes fire design parts are analyzed viewing at the needs for National implementation of the Eurocodes and the potential for further harmonization. Key research directions for further development of the Eurocode fire design parts are presented following a discussion with the Chairman of the Horizontal Group on Fire Design of CEN/TC250. Finally, the document provides a proposal for the further actions needed to formulate and justify the key needs for improved fire design using the Eurocodes.
